Openings: May 8 11 12 14 15 16 24 25 29 31 Call or text 7154108696 to get in the boat and on fish! This week we took a small break from crappie fishing and targeted carp! Carp are an absolute blast to catch on walleye tackle. They fight harder than any ten pound walleye or 5 pound bass. We caught a bunch of fish and had a great time. The weather has been cold and the water temperatures have dropped. Today is the first day in the mid 50s in around a week. I will be targeting some big crappies the next couple days now that the weather is warming. This weekend looks gorgeous and should set up for a great opening weekend. Make sure to follow the Facebook page to see short videos and on the water reports : https://www.facebook.com/Tom-Boleys-Guide-Service-154109767976727/

I have fished a few smaller lakes besides the Chippewa Flowage. Water temp range from 44 to 51. We are fishing fish both staging outside of bays and in the junk towards the back. Temps of 48 and up can pull these fish up. Today we caught a bunch of fish in the 12 to 14 inch range. All released. Really picking the cover apart is crucial this time of year. You can make 3 casts to the same stick and catch one on the fourth. Remember that these fish aren't tucked to the bottom. They are typically only down a foot or two. I have a bunch of availability this weekend and next week. Call or text 7154108696

Green Bay - , WI

Walleye

I have been in Green Bay chasing trophy walleyes the past 2 weeks. We fished the Western side of the bay and did well. Our best day was 25 fish all casting. This fishery never gets old! We caught 3 fish under 20 on the bay with a 13.6 pounder being our largest. Ripping Raps and plastics caught fish. Firetiger and chrome and black ripping raps were our top producers. We were looking for both warm and dirty water bear any kind of slight breakine. Side imaging played a huge roll in finding fish. We wouldn't fish without marking out the approximate size of the non condensed schools. This is one of my favorite bites of the year and look forward to doing more of this in the future. Truly unreal walleye fishing!

Fishing has been pretty good for the midwinter period. We have been targeting walleye, pike and crappies on a variety of Hayward area lakes. We have had a decent walleye day bite and a strong morning/afternoon bite. Depths of 13 to 24 have been best. I always downsize this time of year and drill a lot of holes to find exact fish locations. Grindstone, Round and LCO have been good. I have a shack rental available on Grindstone lake for those that are interested. Pike fishing has been good near deeper weeds growth. Alot of fish in the 27 to 33 inch range. Crappie fishing has been hot on both the Chippewa Flowage and other bodies of water. I have a shack rental available onow the flowage 7 days a week. Call to book a fully guided trip or a shack rental today. We have lots of availability this month. 7154108696

Fall fishing has been awesome. With lakes turned over fish are set up in their typical pattern. Whether it's trophy smallmouth, walleye, musky or crappie this is when we catch some of the largest fish of the season. The Chippewa Flowage has been awesome but here are a few fish from other area lakes on the past few weeks. I have a bunch of November dates available! Call and book your fall trip. 7154108696. Looking at the long term forecast we will be able to easily fish into late November. Lodging can be difficult this time of year so give me a call and I will help you out with that as well. Book a November date and receive 50$ off your trip.

Thank you for subscribing to Tom Boley's Guide Service fishing reports! It’s a great time to capitalize on late-summer patterns. Most people think of the late summer as a tougher bite but realistically it is one of the consistent bite of the season for nearly all species. In the past week we have fished for everything (musky, smallmouth, crappie, walleye, pike) and had success. Open Dates: August: 19 21 24 26 September 1 8 12 14 18 19. Book two of these dates and get 50$ off each date! Text or call 7154108696 to get in on the action! Thanks! Crappie fishing has been awesome. As it always is this time of year. Channel swings, humps and cribs have all been productive. In my opinion the crib bite has not been as good as it has in years past. However crappies are holding on humps in the 12-17 foot range and they are thick. Walleye fishing has been good on both bog humps and shallow structure(stumps, brush, weeds) I have no one set method to fish walleyes cater the presentation to the spot. We have been picking up our nicer walleyes suspended over deep water near bait. We pulled back on the musky fishing the past week as the water got too hot 80+ (It puts too much stress on the fish to be caught and released when the water is that hot.) But we will be back on them tomorrow hopefully. We have been targeting fish around deep structure near loads of baitfish. We lost the 3 biggest fish we had on all season. Just didn’t hook up well. We caught some nice ones as well. Bulldawgs Medussas and swimbaits have been our tools. Should be a great bite in the coming weeks as the water cools. Smallmouth has been good overall. The water has dropped about a foot and the fish have slid off the shorelines in the middle of the day. 6-10 foot range. In the evening they have been crawling back shallow. Topwaters have been good but the consistent producer has been the NED rig. It always gets them. I have a few openings in the near future. Get in the boat and catch some fish. Open Dates: August: 19 21 24 26 September 1 8 12 14 18 19. Book two of these dates and get 50$ off each date! Text or call 7154108696 to get in on the action! Thanks!

Area fishing has been great as well. We have been catching a ton of nice smallmouth bass! Fish are post spawn now and are positioning on typical summer locations close to deep water. In a week we will see a much more solid pattern as some fish are still scattered coming off of the spawn. Water temperature are around 63 degrees on most lakes. Whenever I am guiding bass trip I also rig up live suckers/chubs to increase the odds of catching other bonus species. Big walleyes, muskies and pike have all been in the mix. If you are interested in getting in on some excellent multi-species angling I have a few great dates available. Saturday June 11th is open. June 17th 1pm-9pm. June 22nd 1pm- 9pm. Text or call 7154108696 to get in on the action! Thanks!

I have spent a little bit of time chasing some trophy smallmouth bass around in the Hayward area. This bite is just kicking off and has the potential to produce a ton of trophy caliber fish. Fish are still at least 2 weeks pre-spawn on the main lake. Tubes and Jerkbaits have been working well depending on the conditions. If you want to catch some giant smallmouth like these, give me a call and get in on one of these open dates! Open dates: May 19th 6am-2pm / May 20th Open/ May 30th 12pm-9pm / May 31st For the Chippewa Flowage fishing report visit the Chippewa Flowage tab!

Fishing is fantastic right now on a variety of lakes. On smaller lakes there are even crappies starting to bed up as of last night. Water temps were around 58. We have fished around weeds and brush just outside of spawning sites. This is my favorite time of year to get on some of the biggest crappies in a system. We have been using plastics and floats. I have tomorrow Friday May 6th open for crappie fishing if you are coming up for the opener and want to get into a ton of crappies before the season starts call or message 7154108696 and I will get you in the boat tomorrow!

Ann with a big crappie!

Crappie

Here is the first segment of a new line of videos I will try to post every week. "What I Learned" is just that, it is what I learned on a given day on the water. Learn something every time you go fishing and you will be a better angler. Fishing has been fair the past two days. We limited out on crappies yesterday in 6-12 feet of water just outside of a spawning bay. The day before it was very cold and we caught fish out over deep water. Its not a problem finding fish. Once you do slow down and work through them. High of 55 today so unless we get a ton of sun there wont be a bunch of fish in the trees.

Spring crappie fishing is still great on a variety of lakes in the Hayward area. Water temperatures have cooled significantly the past few days. Most lakes are in the upper 40's or low 50's. A few crappies are still up in the wood however most are staging just outside of the spawning bays. Depths of 10-20 feet is ideal for staging fish. If you want some spring crappie pointers head on over to my "Pulse" tab on this website and read an article I wrote highlighting spring crappies. Here is a short video I shot last week discussing the effectiveness of a cane pole. As I sat there catching fish on a 10$ rod I had to laugh at the fact there was at least 2000$ of rod/reel combos in my rod locker. Everything has a time and place! I will begin sending out posts via email for those of you who signed up for fishing reports. If you would like to receive reports go to my home page and fill out the email address in the bottom right corner! Thanks and looking forward to another excellent season on the water!

Fishing has been awesome as of late. Crappies are up shallow and more are on the way. Cooler temps at night make the morning a little more difficult but we are still catching great fish. Afternoons have been fantastic as the fish respond the the warmer water. Light jigs tipped with plastics have been clutch. Put a small float a foot or two above the bait and start catching. Find the warm water and start looking for fish. Here is a slab from yesterday. This is the beginning. There is much better crappie fishing to be had in the near future.

Crappie

If you would like to get out after some spring crappies I have dates available. Contact me through my website or call 715-410-8696. I Also have Saturday May 7th which is fishing opener available for crappies, walleyes or smallmouth! Fishing has been great the past few days. After the abrupt warm up this past weekend many crappies and other panfish have pushed shallow. We are catching a ton of crappies in 1-6 feet of water near brush and stumps. We are catching both male and female crappies in the shallow water, which is somewhat odd to see this early on. There are still more fish suspended in deeper water but catching them shallow is far more fun. We have been using a combination of cane poles and spinning tackle to pick apart shallow structure. This is just the start as crappies will likely be shallow for another month. Good Luck.

Ice Fishing

This was from last Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Fishing was good. We struggled a little bit with the smallies but put a few on the ice. Friday we chased some crappies around on an Hayward area lake. Crappie fishing was a little slow as a big front was pushing our way. Once it became a whiteout the crappies basically went dormant. But we caught a bunch of 12 inchers and a 14 inch crappie. Overall a great time. Ice is starting to go pretty quick now we will be on the ice this weekend for sure. I had a cancellation this Saturday if you are interested in doing some ice fishing in the Hayward, Wisconsin area.

Northern Pike

We have been having a ton of fun catching the larger pike on open water medium weight rods! This is so much fun that we had to film it. I have been playing around with these set ups for a while and have gotten pretty proficient at catching them in this fashion. I believe I will never use a tip up for targeting pike again. Give it a watch and make sure to subscribe to Tom Boley on Youtube!

Crappie

Bo and Kelly had a great day on the ice. Fish averaged from 11-13. We bounced around to a variety of areas and caught fish at each location hitting our best spot around midday when many suspended crappies feed the best. Fish were roaming hard today so we up-sized our presentation to call fish in and key on the larger fish. Fun day on the lake!

Northern Pike

Mixed it up yesterday and did some pike fishing. Fished a new spot that has been on my mind for a while now and it kinda paid off. It was a sand flat adjacent to the deepest water in the lake. Sat on it for 2 hours had one flag and caught a 36 inch fish. Im sure it has more fish on it but it is just a low numbers kind of spot. There was about 10 inches of water on top of the ice where I was fishing and I know a lot of other lakes in the area are slushy like this. By shore I had 12 inches of ice. 50 yards out had 13 inches and 100 yards out I had 9 inches.

Crappie

Good mess of crappies for the boys yesterday. Biggest fish was a hair short of 15! Average fish was right around 12 inches! Previously we were catching bigger fish on jigging raps. Yesterday we had to downsize to tungsten jigs tipped with plastics. Fishing has been great!

Brandon and company iced some nice crappies today! We bounced around and found some nice fish. Average was probably a little over 11 inches. After pounding on some crappies we tried for walleyes this evening. The sun aligned with Jupiter in such a way that it made an acute angle with the earth and shut the walleyes down. Still a great day on the ice! Biggest crappie was 13.25.

Crappie

Yesterday we fished a smaller lake in search of white crappie. Caught a whole bunch of black crappies and one white crappie.Crappies were 8-11 inches. It was cool so see a white crappie in the Hayward area. Today I made a solo trip in search of some bigger crappies on LCO and ended up catching 15-20 fish this afternoon. Fish were between 11.5 and 14 inches. Was jigging a 1/16 ounce tungsten tipped with minnow imitation plastic. I have fished a half dozen different lakes in the past few days and have seen a ton of variance in ice conditions. I have seen 6"-12". Size of lake doesn't really matter so stay safe.

Walleye

Had client Mike out for the evening walleye bite. We caught a half dozen fish from 5pm-7pm. Was a much slower bite, likely due to the extreme cold front. Fish were all between 15 inches and 20 inches. Small walleye suckers got the most bites. We marked a lot of fish but had no luck jigging. Depths of 17-10 were best. We set up on a rock bar. Mike went home with a fat 20 inch fish!

Ice Fishing
Northern Pike

Went after some bigger pike for a few hours yesterday. We caught a couple of great pike and a nice walleye. The bite was deeper yesterday due to the big cold front. We are running the biggest minnows we can get in depths ranging from 15-30 feet. In the system we are fishing these larger pike eat ciscos and whitefish. These fish live in deep water and we are always fishing near deep/open water. You know you are fishing near the bait when every pike you catch poops when you get them on the ice. Back at it today in the cold. -15 this morning!

Ice Fishing

Amanda and Ryan came up from Madison for a day on the ice. We started out chasing pike around and got a 3 or 4 right around the 30 inch mark. We we fishing big milfoil balls near deep water. Most fish came from 13-17 feet of water on larger shiners and suckers. In the afternoon we chased some shallow water walleyes. We had a big snow front come in and for some reason fishing was slower. We caught a few walleyes but didn't stay too long after dark. The bite lasted from about 4:45 til 5:30. We got around 3 inches of fresh snow last night. Ice has been around 5-8 icnhes on the deep clear lakes. They are staking snowmobile trails on a few of the lakes already. Good Luck

Walleye fishing has been great on the larger lakes in the area. We are targeting these fish as the come into the shallows later in the day. Last night we put around 20 walleyes on the ice in 3 hours. We are both jigging and using tip ups. We are fishing on about 4-6 inches of ice. Back to the ice chasing big pike tomorrow! Contact me through my website to book your guided trip today!

Ice Fishing Report - ,

Finally! We have been on safe ice the past few days. (3-5) inches. After looking for ice on and off for 3 weeks I watched many lakes freeze and then thaw numerous times. The larger lakes do not have fishable ice, or any ice. The Hayward area has greatly improved over the past 3 days. Checked around 20 smaller lakes on Friday, most had around and inch or two of very poor ice. The past two days have been great. The ice that was borderline has really improved. We have been fishing on a variety of smaller lakes and catching a variety of fish. A few lakes are still wide open and many more have skim ice. There is no real pattern to what lakes have ice and what lakes don't. Some 8 acre lakes will have no ice then right next to that a 800 acre lake will have 4 inches. I have been on Moose, Ghost, Nelson, Spider Lake and bays on the Chippewa Flowage. We have been catching Crappies, Walleyes, Pike and a few gills. Tomorrow trying a few different areas and techniques in order to key on some larger Pike on the Chippewa Flowage. Plenty of numbers today, just not the right size. If you have any questions about the ice feel free to give me a call/text/email. And if you are looking to get on some fish this winter give me a call. In a week or so we will likely have the permanent house out on the crappie holes. Good Luck! Stay Safe! Hopefully I will have some video up tomorrow evening if all goes as planned.

Bass

Good thing we haven't published a fishing report since May! After spending nearly my entire season on the Chippewa Flowage I have posted all of my fishing reports to the Chippewa Flowage tab. Check it out we have lots of video tips and tricks. From here on out we will be fishing a wider variety of lakes and will likely be posting more and more reports/videos on this page. If you are interested in the Chippewa Flowage make sure to follow that page! Here is a shoot I did a little over a week ago. After the timing wasn't right for the A-rig shoot I wanted to do I utilized one my favorite tactic for catching big smallies from opening weekend til ice up. When drop shotting it is truly the little things that make the biggest difference. This is what I have learned about this great technique. Not only are these tips applicable to the Hayward area but are effective anywhere bass can be found.
