Chippewa Flowage Fishing Report

05/15/2016

I have been on the Chippewa Flowage every day of the season and fishing is up and down to say the least. Crappies are easy to catch out in the new weed growth near spawning bays. Walleye fishing has been tough. Things will get better with some warmer weather. The last couple of days you will fish 4 spots and not see a walleye then on the last spot catch 8 fish. The day after they will be gone. There isn’t a ton of fish in any one spot. You can go out deep and crush them but they will all be about 13 inches. We are fishing weeds and wood/brush in 15 feet and less. Live bait has worked best the past couple days with this massive cold front. Fish slow and methodically but don’t just sit on one spot and wait for them to show up. Crankbait bite should pick up this week with some nice warm temps. Water temperature is down to 52 which is close to what is was about a month ago. If you are reading this and thinking, “Wow I better postpone my trip, fishing sucks.” It only takes 1 nice day to put fish in a positive mood and tomorrow is supposed to hit 60 degrees. We have some fantastic fishing ahead of us. That being said come spend a day in the boat with me!
